Upcoming JTCA Meeting Information

When: November 19th, 2011
Where: Joshua Tree Community Center

Our meeting in October was an opportunity for The 29 Palms Band of Mission Indians to share their proposal for a casino in Joshua Tree and for residents to give feedback directly to the tribe (see here).

Our November meeting will be focused on the process of converting private land to sovereign land (necessary for an Indian casino), how community groups and individuals can have legal comment, the current applications that have been approved by the Dept. of the Interior and are now on the Governor’s desk for approval.

One of our speakers will be Patty Mayne she will discuss her efforts working with a proposed 2nd casino by the Soboba Band of Indians. Patty lives in San Jacinto. Citizens in this community are working with a fee to trust issue of over 600 ac.

Our second speaker will be Cheryl Schmit, she is the Director for Stand Up For California  and will discuss local and statewide efforts and the current effort.

Please check back here for updates prior to the meeting.

Please see the Stand Up for California Website for their current information.
